Accessibility
We want everyone to be able to use Learning @ COL, whatever technology or assistive tools they use to access it.
The platform
Learning @ COL runs on Moodle, an open-source learning platform, using the Boost Union theme. Both are widely used, actively maintained, and designed with accessibility in mind, including keyboard navigation, screen reader support, and adjustable text sizing through your browser or device settings.
What we aim for
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA wherever possible. This covers things like sufficient colour contrast, clear headings and structure, descriptive link text, and alternative text for meaningful images.
Where accessibility can vary
Course content on Learning @ COL is created by different course teams, so how well individual pages, documents, or activities meet these standards can vary. We're working to improve consistency over time, but if you come across something that's hard to use, we'd like to know, see below.
Making your device easier to use
Your computer and browser already have a number of features to allow personalisation which can help you use the device, including websites like Learning @ COL. AbilityNet provide guides on how to make your device easier to use covering things like making text bigger, how to navigate using the keyboard only and how to magnify a screen. The guides are device specific and really helpful.
